Ready by Christmas: What Is Still Achievable

Christmas is around ten weeks away! At this time of year the question we are asked most often is...can it be delivered for Christmas? The answer is usually yes, provided the decisions are made now.

Ten weeks is generally enough time to transform a room. It is, however, not enough time to keep changing your mind. Here is how to think about what is realistic, and what needs to happen now.

Start With What Takes Longest

Custom upholstery, made-to-order furniture, window coverings, and anything imported often carry lead times of eight to twelve weeks, sometimes longer. Many suppliers also set final order dates for pre-Christmas delivery, and most workrooms and freight close over the holiday period. If a new sofa or custom curtains are part of the plan, they need to be ordered in the next fortnight, not November.

These are the pieces to decide first. Everything else can be built around them.

What Ten Weeks Can Deliver

Plenty can still come together comfortably before Christmas. Paint, lighting, rugs and furniture available from stock, art, cushions, throws, bed linen and the final layer of styling all sit well within the timeframe. Together they make a real difference. A room with the right colour on the walls, considered lighting and a well chosen rug feels finished, even if the larger pieces are still on their way.

Choose the Rooms That Matter Most

Think about where you will actually spend the bulk of your time over the festive period. For most families that means the living and dining spaces, and a guest bedroom if people are coming to stay. One room done well will always feel better than three rooms half done. Focus the budget where it will be seen and used, and leave the rest for the new year.

Make the Decisions Early

In our experience, the thing that delays a project is rarely the making. It is the deciding. Fabric samples sit on the kitchen bench for weeks, and the order date quietly passes. Set yourself a short window to make your selections, commit to them, and then let the process run. Buy well, buy once, and enjoy the results rather than waiting for the new year.
